World’s Finest, ‘The Kingdom’

Portland, Ore. ska and reggae band World’s Finest performs “The Kingdom” during its Lake Tahoe debut July 12 in the Heavenly Village.

Photographer’s notebook: The Buddy Emmer Blues band on July 21 featured guest artist Matty T Trayton for Harrah’s Monday Night Summer Blues series at Center Stage. Matty T hails from Vacaville. He isn’t your kick-back-and-relax blues artist. He’s more a high-energy, in-your-face musician. To make my point, Matty T climbed off the stage and made his way around the crowd playing to individual people and much to the delight of all. Great show; great energy. - Kurt Johnson

‘Believe,’ Sil Shoda

Reno modern country rockers Sil Shoda performs it original song “Believe” in July 2014 in South Lake Tahoe’s Heavenly Village.

Photographer’s notebook: Rok Of Ages, a classic rock tribute band playing arena rock hits from the 70′s and 80′s, performed on the Heavenly Village stage Saturday evening July 19th. Band members Peter Dallas (drums), Z Maddox (guitar), Fred Bensi (keys) Martin Motnik (Bass), and Stephen Austin Malanowski (vocals), were at the top if their game as they rocked it out to a packed and enthusiastic crowd. Singer Stephen Austin Malanowski gave his hat to a young boy, who was obviously enjoying the show, telling the boy “I Don’t have a drum stick, but here’s my hat for when you become a rock star. Don’t sell it on eBay!!” The second set they introduced Larry Otello (Jon Bovi) a Bon Jovi tribute singer. And I must say, he was dead on. The moves, the vocals, the whole package. This was one if the funniest events I’ve photographed. And did I mention the gorgeous dancers on each side of the stage! I think this was Heavenly Village’s best act so far.Kurt Johnson

STATELINE — Picture this. The year is 1972, and Buck Owens and the Buckaroos are putting the finishing touches on an evening of their countless classic country hits in front of a whoopin’-and-hollerin’ appreciative crowd.

“We’ll be right back with a few more songs!” Buck bellows, as he steps into the darkness behind the stage with the band.

Minutes later, they somberly re-emerge on a dark stage –…
